It is still knit from the bottom up, but it would easily be knit from the top down if you wanted to
not run out of yarn. Just follow the pattern backwards. The only difference is that instead of decreasing on every bodice stitch you would increase on every stitch by kf&b or M1. The kf&b would add in a purl look stitch every second stitch. the m1 would add an eyelet look after every stitch.
ALTERATIONS - for bottom up - In the round 0-3m (6-12m)
CO 112 (136)stitches. Follow original pattern from here.
After the decrease for 'puff' in bodice. split the stitches 50/50 for front and back. Continue on original pattern.
When sewing ends in i like to strengthen the split for the bodice with a 3-4 loop stitches. This stops any pull / stress on the garment when being put on the baby and also looks tidier.
All done.
Do I join the yarn then cont original pattern?
ReplyDeleteI'm a little confused. I'm knitting this in the round. I don't understand what u mean by after the decrease for puff in bodice. Do I decrease 5 knit stitches in the knit row and then by 5 in the purl row? Would u pls elaborate a bit more on the instructions for knitting in the round? I'm a self-taught knitter. Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteHow much yarn do you estimate for the 0-6 month and 6-12 month sizes?
ReplyDeleteThank you
If knitting in the round, the bottom edge should be a vertical 1x1 rib - so you should alternate knit/purl/knit/purl or the bottom edge will curl.
ReplyDeleteFor 18-24 months would you just add another 20% and go with about 165? I am new to knitting so I'm not sure if you need to keep it divisible by a number or anything. Thanks so much, this is just adorable!
ReplyDeleteHow long should the circular needles be?
ReplyDeleteIf you find your circular is the wrong length (which it might end up being as you increase or decrease, depending on if you start at the bottom or top of tunic), just use 2 circulars with the same diameter. This way you can even use 2 very long circulars, and work on the two tips of needle A until your yarn is next to needle B, then use the two tips of needle B until your yarn is next to needle A again. This way you are not likely to drop stitches by mistake if a needle is on the short side.
DeleteI'm knitting in the round and this is a little confusing for me the way it's written and having to go back and forth between the two patterns. I'm now at the bodice and not sure if I'm doing it right or not. I've cast off 3 knit then knit around so now do I cast off 3 more?
ReplyDeleteI'd really like the whole pattern for knit in the round from start to finish and not have to go to the original pattern.
ReplyDeleteYou can't just 'follow the original pattern'. If you K first (bottom) 4 rows you would end up with stockinette instead of garter, which would curl...
ReplyDeleteReached the decrease part for the bodice and am now stuck :/ please help! Xx
ReplyDeleteMuito lindo!
ReplyDeleteI am having the same problem what do you mean by puff in bodice? There is no mention of that anywhere in the pattern? Very confusing
ReplyDeleteapparently no answers as none of these older questions were answered it seems
ReplyDeleteWhen you finish the skirting, cast off 3, knit half, cast of 3 then knit to the end (ie if 120 total stitches...CO3, K57, CO3, K57) then knit2tog in the opposite direction (will look like a purl in the right side..I think this is the puff in the bodice she is talking about) now 30 stitches either side. I put 1 side on a stitch holder and continue to use the circulars to moss up one side of the bodice (K1P1 across then P1K1 across...make sure you purl the knits and knit the purls)
ReplyDeleteThanks Lia, this helps. Could you also clarify the 3-4 loop stitches to strengthen the split.
Deletethank you,
elaine skeen
I do not want to be critical but you need to write a full compleye pattern for in the round. Many knitters are not exp enough to flip back and forth between the two methods and it does not make sense. Sorry, just sayin
ReplyDeleteAgree completely - especially after reading all the comments
DeleteCan you tell me if there is a pattern for 18-24 months? Thank you.
